The First Few Days...

Can you just imagine what it would be like to be a loon chick those first few days? Being so buoyant and floating on water and then being able to ride on moms back with the protection under her wing for a needed rest.

Everything you see is so new, the pond brimming with life like turtles sunning themselves on logs, frogs hopping about along the edge, dragonflies darting here and there and swallows swooping down catching insects...

and the surface of the pond covered with the vibrant yellow lilies...

Dad is the provider, swimming by moms side often with his head underwater, then popping up with a shiny minnow that you eagerly gulp down and fills your hungry belly.

Rising in the morning with the mist...

and settling down in the evening with the setting sun.

The first few days of the life of a loon chick...
